BERGER ON THE CHARGE AT NURBURGRING
George White-supported European Superstock championship rider, Maxime Berger, was in sparkling form at round seven of the series at the Nurburgring in Germany on Sunday 6 September. The Frenchman has some problems during wet qualifying and had to start from 16th on the grid.
However, the 20-year-old from Dijon, scythed through the field and was up to fourth place by the end of the third lap. He moved into second on lap seven but, by that time, eventual race winner, Xavier Simeon, had opened up an insurmountable gap and the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade-mounted Berger settled for a solid second place. The result moved him back into third place in the standings, but his two DNFs at Monza and Brno (where he crashed out of a comfortable lead) have left him 53 points adrift of Simeon with three rounds to go.
Berger's Ten Kate Junior team-mate, Gino Rea, finished sixth in Sunday's Junior Superstock race at Nurburgring at the young British Honda rider sits in third place in his series, although just 24 points behind the leader, Italy's Danilo Petrucci.
In the World Supersport championship, George White Ten Kate Racing's Barry Veneman had an eventful weekend, including a crash during practice. In the absence of any marshal to give him a ride back to the paddock, Barry found himself on the main road outside the Nurburgring, where he flagged down a passing BMW driver, who got him back in time to climb on his spare machine.
As a result of his problems, Veneman could only qualify in 21st place on his Ten Kate Honda CBR600RR but the tenacious Dutchman fought his way through to 12th place at the flag.
The George White riders are next in action at Imola in Italy on 24-26 September.
All the best,
The George White team
